I never thought of grumbling and complaining about situations as so much a cancerous disease with detrimental effect until I experienced something on my way home for the Christmas celebration
The driver of the bus I entered just wouldn’t stop complaining about the sluggishness of the conductor, no change to give passengers, traffic, careless driving by other drivers, name it, he complained about any and everything
He obviously was frustrated about the state of the economy and was venting his frustration on we the passengers
But then I thought, he isn’t the only being affected, we all are but choose how we respond to the situation.
The 30 -Minute’s journey seemed longer than usual as I got pizzed off and just wanted to be off this “grumble-some bus’
Halfway into the journey, the bus suddenly developed a fault and wouldn’t move again
You know they say ’Cars are like babies with special needs at unexpected times’
As each passenger alighted from the bus and demanded for a refund of their money I could see the furious look on the drivers’ face
He suddenly became calm and didn’t run his mouth as he tried to settle each passenger with a refund or put them in another bus going towards their destination
So I got my refund and walked away. I didn’t feel so much pity for the driver ,the incidence was a norm in Lagos that happened every other day
But then, something came to my mind, “he complained and got a faulty bus in return”
I love to speak positively about every situation, but deep down I knew the driver had an attitude of always complaining and today he got served
Seeing what happened I reflected on the countless times I had complained about things that didn’t work in my life, opportunities I felt qualified for but missed and the desires I had that were un-met and immediately I repented
Here’s the gist, sometimes ,we just feel the whole world is on our shoulder and the best way to respond to situations is complain and grumble either within us or voice it out to people around us
But truth is doing so will never solve any problem but rather keep us in continuous state of worry and invariably steal our peace of mind
So for me, the next time I am faced with a situation, i have learnt not to put on the’ grumble-some’ attitude but go through each situation maintaining a positive attitude
And I’d advise you do the same too

  • Everyday is a blessing, every moment is a privilege and every opportunity is a gift. Cultivate the attitude of thanksgiving and never u murmur as some did and were destroyed. The Psalmist says in :
    Psalms 34:1-7, 10, 13 (KJV)
1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

  • Very true and inspiring Dearie! one thing about life we all are yet to get an understanding is that we have to be deliberate about what we do. It’s not just about positive confessions only but we need choose to create positive pictures along side our confessions (Imagine it) till it becomes a reality, create a positive mental attitude towards it (positive emotions and vibes). Find a reason to smile in a situations not out of pretense but because you choose to.

  • What we say are spirits and seeds… They always find a way to manifest.
Our response to life issues with virtue of patience and thanksgiving irregardless of the grims.
    Nice one lady

  • Just had time to read this since I got the link and I very much agree that grumbling adds nothing to our lives, it only leaves us frustrated and more heart broken. Our complains and grumbling cannot even add as much as one inch to our height therefore I REFUSE TO KEEP GRUMBLING. Thanks Miss ‘Tere
